Marine is Canada’s greenest mode of transport, contributing less that 1% of our domestic greenhouse gas emissions. Recently the Biden Administration updated its transportation decarbonization strategy by including a number of proactive (and substantive) policy measures that would leverage marine’s unique position in the supply chain recognizing how maritime services offer an opportunity, now, to switch longer-haul cargo from overground to marine, and thereby realize substantial carbon reductions.
Is the Canadian government ready to commit to real support in terms of money, experimentation, and putting the regulatory frameworks in place that are necessary for domestic operations? Will it want to partner with industry to develop the next generation of alternative marine fuels, propulsion systems, and clean energy hubs at our ports? These and other questions will be examined by Mr.Burrows.
Mr. Burrows has been President and CEO of the Chamber of Marine Commerce since 2016. He draws on strong advocacy skills and over 35 years of experience in the transportation and industrial sectors, having held senior positions at Canadian Pacific in Canada and Europe, the Railway Association of Canada, Ottawa, and TACTIX Government Relations and Public Affairs-where he led their ‘Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy’ practice. His achievements representing these organizations has included: commercial client account expansion, asset acquisitions, regulatory approval for network rationalization, passage of major legislation, tax freezes, capital cost allowance improvements, and federal government funding for capital projects. He has been a board director of the Transportation Association of Canada, the Greater Vancouver Gateway Council, the Canadian Society of Association Executives (OG) and more.
